re-imagining urban histories and futures with children and young people
1/18
sensing forests
This work emerged as part of an ongoing residency at ArtPlay, the City of Melbourne's creative studio for children. Working in collaboration with Barking Spider Visual Theatre company, the project explores how young children learn to sense dynamic relations of care, communication, and interdependency in a nearby urban forest. This led to the development of an immersive 'underground world' at ArtPlay called Wood Wide Web, where children become fungal messengers who carry chemical signals between parent trees and their offspring. This project is ongoing, and currently working to investigate connections between Wood Wide Web, Melbourne's Urban Forest data set, and Indigenous public artworks and knowledge sharing along Birrarung Marr.
